Green energy consumption in Hungary under EU average, over neighbors

The proportion of “green” energy Hungarians consume is under the EU average but over rates in neighboring countries, data published by Eurostat show.

Electricity generated using renewable resources accounted for 7.3% of all electricity consumed in Hungary in 2009, under the 9.0% average for the European Union but over the rates in Slovakia (7.2%), Poland (6.6%) and the Czech Republic (5.7%).

Hungary aims to raise the proportion of renewable energy to 14.65% of total consumption by 2020, well over the 13% target for the country set by the EU.
