Hungary to hold environmental summit
Hungary will hold an Informal Environmental Council on March 25 and 26 in Gödöllő, near Budapest, as part of the Hungarian EU Presidency, the press office of the Rural Development Ministry told MTI.
The meeting is expected to be attended by EU Environment Commissioner Janez Potocnik, members of the EU Commission and the EU Parliament, and environment protection ministers of prospective member states and Norway and Switzerland.
The central topic of the meeting will be water, the place and role of water in EU policies and the future of the water stocks of the continent.
The Hungarian presidency strives for the adoption of conclusions at the Environmental Council to be held in June on the protection of European water stocks and on integrated, sustainable water management, the statement said.
The informal meeting is closely related to the international conference titled Future of European Waters organised jointly with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences between March 24-26.
